We made it. After two hectic weeks of packing, giving away, selling, throwing away, storing, re-packing and generally making a mess of the in-laws house, we finally got on a plane to New York with a few suitcases. A few small boxes and a cat will follow on soon. Actually we got on a plane to Iceland, then another to Newark, but sadly exploring Iceland will have to wait for another day (Josh - let's get in planned!).
We've been staying with friends on Hoboken, just over the Hudson from Manhattan, for just over a week now. It helps that the weather has been almost constant beautiful sunshine, and that there was the bi-annual Hoboken arts and music festival on Sunday, with the main street full of art and musics stalls with live bands playing at each end of the street. Apartment hunting has been frustrating, taking time to learn the real estate system and types of property, but so far I like it here. A lot.
Yesterday was the first time I took the camera out on the streets and the train terminal in particular has a lot of potential for interesting shots.
There are no bridges nearby but the view over to Manhattan is still pretty special.
I've managed to few street portraits too, and I'll be posting more of the city and it's people daily over on Instagram.
