Midtown Manhattan Street Photography Weekend

September 16-17, 2017

New York. In many ways the street photographers dream. Manhattan is full of life and vitality and diversity. It's colorful, dramatic and occasionally intimidating.

For this midtown workshop we'll have a full variety of locations to enjoy, from the crowds in Times Square to the relative quiet of Central Park and the beautiful halls of the public library. We'll spend enjoying the elevated view thats The Highline provides and explore the neighborhoods known as Little India and Little Brazil. This is the beating heart of Manhattan and paradise for a street photographer.

We'll be looking together for Light, Composition and Story. We'll find the light and shadows and colors in the midst of the stunning Manhattan architecture. We'll find the shapes and patterns and objects to create powerful backdrops. And we'll find the people and moments to document the story of life on the streets of Manhattan in all it's glorious variety.

What you need

A digital camera and a reasonable understanding of it's basic functions. It doesn't need to be a high-end camera and you don't need a particular type of lens, although I wouldn't recommend only bringing a long telephoto lens. I can offer technical assistance on the workshop but the more familiar you are with your camera, the more you'll be able to devote your attention to the potential images around you. If you want to concentrate of smartphone photography that's fine too and we'll talk a little about it through the workshop.

You should also be able to comfortably walk for a few miles each day.
