One of the successful trends in mobile photography has been to simplify, to minimize the amount of detail and complexity, partly to suit the smaller screen sizes. From simple open skies to top-down table-tops and desks, an image with a few simple elements can still be striking and tell a strong story.

A few tips on simplifying your images:

  • Consciously decide what to include and what to exclude from the frame.
  • Leave some space.
  • With fewer elements the positioning of them becomes more important. Think about where you want to position them to 'balance' the image, or lead the viewer into the frame.
  • Under or over-exposing may help to simplify the image, by removing unwanted details in the shadows or highlights.
