Wishing Time Away
The movie ‘Click’ with Adam Sandler summed it up pretty well. We don’t get this time back. This year, this month, with week, this day.
Some of us put things on hold through the pandemic. But I think we also have similar and more common habits even when there aren’t travel restrictions and lockdowns. It could be ‘I just want to get through this next week’, or ‘I can’t wait until the Superbowl’ or ‘Once I get this new house/car/phone/pet/Peleton everything will be different’.
Wishing time away.
The opposite of Carpe Diem.
Not just letting time slide away but actually wishing it had gone.
I don’t think it means trying to cram as much in as possible either. We get so caught up in trying to be the most productive, or to consume everything we can. Sometimes the best thing is to gaze at the stars or go for a walk. Put our phones down. Laugh with friends.
Let’s find ways to embrace the days that we don’t look forward to. To learn from them. To grow in patience and resilience and faith. Even when there’s pain, I’d rather have a painful day than no day at all.
