My New Favorite Planning Tool on iPad

Milanote is now on iPad.

It’s not cheap, at about $8-$10 per month, depending on discounts and whether you pay annually or monthly. But it is a tremendous app for organizing thoughts and plans. Especially for filmmaking but you could use it equally well for a photography shoot or to plan a novel or website design.

Previously the Milanote mobile apps were pretty limited, so you had to mostly use the web version. Now the iPad app is, as far as I can tell so far, fully functional.

I was sold on it when I set up a new board (a work area) as a ‘beat sheet’ - a page showing the main scenes and events through the film. Each type of board has a template (or you can simply start with a blank page) and you have the option to include the provided sample text and images. And for the beat sheet, the example content is planning for the first episode of Breaking Bad. Probably reverse engineered rather than original material but still, pretty cool.

I’ve tried Notion too but I find Milanote more intuitive and a very visual way of working. I still use Apple Notes extensively but as a tool for playing around with new ideas and planning and writing and even keeping track of projects, I think Milanote is going to be a lot of fun to use.
