My New Camera : The Sigma FP

Buying a Sigma FP hasn’t been a quick decision.

It doesn’t make a lot of sense on paper (except for the awesome 12-bit raw video).

I’m pretty sure I hadn’t even heard of it when it was released in 2019.

I can’t remember what put it on my radar, maybe YouTubers like Justin Philips, Spenser Sakurai and Anson & Co.

And I loved this little ‘review’:

It’s at a reduced price at the moment with the little 45mm f/2.8 and I recently sold my Sony ZV-E10 so decided to get it as a small ‘walkaround’ stills and video camera.

Wow. This thing feels better built than my old Leica M240. So solid. A small chunk of metal.

A little slow to switch on. Sometimes a little slow to focus.

The menus seem intuitive. Very nice separation of video and stills settings.

The add-on grip is solid metal and the texture feels great.

Made in Japan, by a family owned business.

Uncomplicated controls.

Sharp and solid little lens.

Vector scopes. In photo and video.

No viewfinder, no mechanical shutter, no flippy screen. But sometimes less is a good thing.

Early days, honeymoon period etc, but I love it so far.
