Two Great Deals and Two New Canons
I noticed two great camera deals in the US announced recently.
The Panasonic Lumix S5 has been reduced to $1498. No lens but still that’s a good deal for one of the best hybrid photo/video cameras. It’s been my main camera for the last year and it’s been 95% fantastic (the exceptions being the video autofocus and occasional lag in playback).
Also for about the same price but a much more quirky/specialist option, the Sigma FP with the Sigma 45mm prime lens is on sale for $1599. That seems a great deal for such a powerful but tiny video camera. There’s no mechanical shutter and the screen is fixed, but it can shoot 12-bit Raw video. The main issue seems to be that there aren’t many options to lower the video file sizes, so storage quickly becomes an issue. It seems to be slowly building a cult following for the quality of it’s images though.
The rumors of a new Canon R7 and R10 seem pretty certain now. APS-C, at least for the R10, and presumably cheaper than the $2500 R6 to provide a new ‘entry level’ on the RF mount. A small and light camera compete with the Sony A7C and Nikon Z5/Z50 and paired with the little Canon RF 50mm lens could be very nice.
Meanwhile our daughter has become pretty obsessed with getting a drone. She’s 5. I’m very proud.
