How to Make Progress on a Difficult Project

I’m struggling to move forward with a video project. I have plenty of footage, but no real story structure yet. I have ideas for themes, but nothing concrete. It’s daunting, and tempting to wait for inspiration, to think that the next step will be an idea that will somehow bring it all together.

I know that’s not likely to happen.

Instead I need to find the best next step in the process. I know if I jump into editing I’m just going to feel lost in the possibilities. So I need to go through the footage and catalogue it. Make a note of each clip and any good quotes. Highlight what I know I want to include. I could do this in Premiere, but I think I’m better doing it in a simple spreadsheet first.

I’m also thinking of using LumaFusion on iPad more. Because I know I’m likely to do more editing sitting in the couch than I do if I always need to sit at a desk. Sometimes we need to make the important tasks a little easier for ourselves, like leaving that guitar out of it’s case and ready for practice. Make the next little step as easy as possible and it’s much more likely to happen.
