Favorite Device.. Ever

For a bit of fun, I thought it would be interesting to think about which electronics devices have been my favorites over the years (which will admittedly show my age a little too):

Round 1:

Apple Watch vs Casio G-Shock

Winner: Apple Watch. A pretty easy win. I wore a Casio for years and it was tough and never needed charging, but Apple does so much more.

iPhone vs Pixel phone

Winner: Close, but Apple wins again. Photos from the Pixel phones were generally better though.

Leica vs Ricoh GR3

Winner: Ricoh GR is my favorite small camera. Leica has higher quality, but the Ricoh is just more fun to use and so small and convenient.

Commodore 64 vs XBox

Winner: Close. XBox and PlayStation have been a lot of fun, but the C64 was so exciting as our first real computer.

iPod vs Panasonic RX-DT5 (radio cassette player)

Winner: RX-DT5. I was late to the iPod party, but remember using the Panasonic all the time as a kid.

MacBook Pro vs MIcrosoft Surface Pro

Winner: Even though I’m not as keen on Windows as a platform, the Microsoft Surface has been my favorite computer hardware to use. Clever design is just more interesting than a traditional laptop.

Psion s5 vs iPad Pro

Winner: The Psion series 5 was and still is an amazing design, a tiny device with a decent keyboard. But I just use the iPad so much.

Fujifilm X-T3 vs Lumix S5

Winner: My favorite ‘pro’ camera so far has been the S5.

Quarter-finals:

Apple Watch vs iPhone

GR3 vs C64

Panasonic vs MS Surface

iPad vs S5

Semi-finals:

iPhone vs GR3

Surface vs iPad

Final:

iPhone vs iPad

Overall Winner: iPhone

Predictable, and if I was still using a Google Pixel then I’m sure that would be here instead. I’m not even using the latest iPhone either, only an old XS. But the iPhone does so much from navigation to photos to games to books to email to music. It’s a distraction too, not always the best device for creativity, but give me one device only and it would still have to be iPhone.
