On the Commute

Everyday routines seem a perfect opportunity to incorporate some photography. There’s familiarity and consistency, the opportunity to search for a story or get to know a particular location. There’s the challenge to find something that’s visually new and interesting in a place that you take for granted. It forces you to pay attention.

I realize I’m fortunate that my regular routine happens to be through Manhattan, but even here it’s easy to keep your head down, earphones in, and just get to the destination without paying much attention. Just having my camera in hand means I’m more likely to look for opportunities for an image, even if I don’t have time to stop for long.

These were all taken recently on the Sigma FP, with the Sigma 45mm f/2.8 and edited in Capture One.
